A Message from the Chair
June 9, 2010

The Primary Election is behind us and I congratulate all the winners. We'll take a few days to rest, but the General Election is going to be a hard fought contest to determine the furture of California and the well being of its people. Enjoy the rest, we will soon be working hard to elect Democratic candidates to the offices they have earned the right to run for.
Congratulations to the No on N campaign. As you no doubt already know, Measure N, the Gold Rush measure in Sutter Creek is behind in the election day results. The people of Sutter Creek won and defeated "N" by only eight votes, but there may still be some to count as same day vote-by-mail ballots are verified.
Disturbing to me are the 9 ballots cast by people who could have voted on Measure N but chose not to. Every vote counts, except the vote not cast. In this case, the votes not cast are enough to possibly sway the election.
Congratulations to both Jay Elias and Jim Rooney. Both candidates for Assessor in Amador's only contested election should be applauded for the campaigns they ran and for the effort they put into their campaigns. Thanks to Jay for stepping up and taking on the challenge. I hope you have inspired others to not let incumbents get a free pass. Congratulations Jim on an impressive showing and on your re-election.
Though it was not just a local race, I want to also congratulate Chris Parker on his nomination as the Democratic candidate in the Board of Equalization District 2 race. His likely Republican opponent will be former legislator George Runner. We will be working hard to elect Chris. As a Tax Attorney, Chris has spent his career representing you and me, average taxpayers, making sure California's tax laws are applied fairly.
The fields are now set, and there are some very critical races as we look ahead to November. Amador Democrats will be working hard to elect Dr. Ami Bera to the 3rd Congressional District; Assemblymember Alyson Huber to a second term in the 10th Assembly District, and as already mentioned, Chris Parker to the Board of Equalization, Dist. 2. We will also be working to elect Barbara Boxer to the U.S. Senate, Jerry Brown as Governor, and the rest of the Democratic ticket to statewide office.
Also in November we will have elections for the Amador Co. Unified School District Board of Education.
Stay tuned...

Amador Co. Democratic Central Committee
